How I Trained for a 50K with Just a Trail, a Timer, and Tech

No gym, no problem. This month, I ditched the weights and treadmills for dirt trails and data. As part of my check-in for the fitgit.me family, here’s how I’m building healthy habits—as an ultra runner in the digital age—without ever stepping foot in a traditional gym.

Weekly Trail Blocks

Every morning before logging into work, I hit the local forest trail. I blocked out 60–90 minutes of running focused on time on feet and mindful pacing. No headphones, just birdsong and pulse rate awareness. It sharpened both my endurance and mental clarity.

Data-Driven Recovery

Using wearable tech, I tracked heart rate variability and sleep patterns. Recovery became less guesswork, more science. It helped me structure rest days that actually worked—leaving me fresh, not flat.

Bodyweight Burn

Three evenings a week, I wrapped up with a 15-minute bodyweight set: squats, push-ups, planks. Under the stars. Functional strength, no barbell required.

Conclusion: Fitness doesn’t have to be fluorescent-lit or full of machines. With nature, tools, and time management, I upped my miles and mindset. Running long is more than fitness—it’s a lifestyle. And yeah, I’ve never been stronger.

Always remember to TTFBs!!!
